Straight Teeth and a Great Smile No Longer Mean Metal Braces, Discomfort, and Years of Treatment

Obtaining a great smile with perfectly aligned teeth used to require a lot of time, money, and discomfort.  That is a thing of the past with the advent of new cosmetic straightening using Invisalign technology.  Dental practices such as Thornhill Dental are now providing this technology to its clients and can service individuals quickly and affordably with their wide range of hours.  Invisalign technology uses a series of steps that painlessly and efficiently straightens teeth without the horrors of metal braces.  The pieces that are provided can be removed to brush the teeth and while eating, thereby giving more freedom and flexibility to patients.  These pieces, using a composite material that is clear are also not noticeable for the most part and no one need have a “metal smile” with Invisalign technology.

Not only is Invisalign more comfortable, but it is also for the most part more convenient.

In the past, metal braces took years to achieve results, with many visits to an orthodontist, a dentist that only focused on alignment of teeth.  It was a time-consuming and many time painful process.  Now many dentists, both cosmetic dentists and dental practices like Thornhill Dental, can provide these services along with their other services thanks to Invisalign technology.  Although there are pros and cons to both Invisalign and metal braces, many times Invisalign is now the preferred choice of many orthodontists and dental providers.  It is suggested, however, by most that even though the Invisalign apparatus can be removed, the best results are achieved if worn approximately twenty to twenty-two hours per day.  There can be disadvantages to Invisalign that must be assessed.  As the process goes forward more attachments might be needed, and this must be a consideration when choosing Invisalign treatment.

There might also be cases where Invisalign is not recommended.

Only a good consultation with a dental provider familiar with Invisalign should occur before treatment.  A cooperative patient who can stick to the plan on their own and does not need severe tooth repair is generally a good candidate.  The amount of malocclusion generally determines which type of method a dentist or orthodontist will suggest, either Invisalign or metal bracing.  Malocclusion is any type of situation where either the jaw or the teeth are not aligning perfectly and while cosmetic enhancement does occur, curing any malocclusion also does provide better chewing and a more comfortable and stable oral situation.

It is important to remedy any malocclusion.

Malocclusions can cause headaches, bite problems, tooth grinding and a host of other health problems if left unattended.  It is generally for the most part an inherited condition as are many abnormalities in other parts of the anatomy.  To remedy bite problems now and to prevent future issues, a consultation with a dental provider is recommended.  If Invisalign is the treatment of choice, using a provider such as Thornhill Dental that is familiar with this technology should also be a consideration before proceeding.
