Summit Energy expands to Vermont, adds roofing division

WEYMOUTH, Mass. – Summit Energy, a leading commercial and residential solar contractor, is featured as one of the country’s fastest growing companies in the latest edition of Inc. magazine, highlighting a year in which the company has expanded to cover all of New England while adding its own roofing services.

Summit was ranked 1,226 out of 5,000 rapidly growing companies in the much-anticipated annual rankings announced on Aug. 16 under the headline, “Meet the Companies Winning in a Time of Change — And Achieving Spectacular Growth.”

The company earned that distinction by posting 529 percent revenue growth over a three-year period, from 2019 to 2021.

Summit Energy helps residential and commercial clients reduce energy bills and transition to cleaner, more efficient energy production and consumption through the installation of rooftop and ground-mounted solar panels.

Summit handles all the permitting; helps customers secure financing; does the installation; deals with the inspections and gets the systems turned on. If a roof needs improvement or replacement to accommodate solar, that can be handled by Peak Roofing, a recently launched division of Summit Energy.

“We describe ourselves as a people company that does solar,” says co-founder Eric Israelsen. “We believe in solar. It’s a great vehicle that aids the human population and planet that we live on, as far as reducing our carbon footprint. But we’re also big believers in individual people, and in helping families, communities, and our customers.”

The people-first approach starts internally, says Israelsen, and has helped the company build its workforce even as the labor shortage persists.

“We’re treating our teammates as people,” he said, “seeing them as people not objects. The more we develop a great team dynamic and work cohesively as a team, the more we can deliver a good customer experience.”

Company co-founder Dallin Maw, points to the company’s 4.9-star Google rating based on 392 reviews, most of which are five stars.

“Summit is the goldilocks of solar,” said Maw, “not too big, not too small … just right. We go by customer names, not account numbers. You get a real front desk person when you call, not a corporate office where they are only concerned about the stock prices. We are big enough to be diversified, but not so big that we forget why we got started in the first place.”

Summit serves customers in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut from offices in Weymouth, Chelmsford and Amesbury, Mass., and recently expanded to Vermont.
