DECEMBER 30, 2020 – ScholarPrep Nation, a program of The Village Method, is helping students get ready for college by providing an online community connecting scholars and their parents to academic coaches and college recruiters.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to unprecedented academic changes that impacted young scholars navigating their academic journey. The ScholarPrep Nation platform was utilized to host several events such as the Virtual College Pathways Summits (April & December) to keep students engaged as they adjusted to a new normal of learning.

ScholarPrep Nation’s versatile platform features online courses, boot camps for college readiness, and other resources to help 8th grade and high school students finish their current coursework and be prepared to enter the world of collegiate education. The platform also gets parents involved through informative sessions to help parents understand what it will take to help their child not only get accepted to a top college but ways to secure scholarships so the education is paid for.

The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) recommends a 250:1 ratio between students and counselors, yet the average number is nearly twice that amount. ScholarPrep nation is stepping in to fill that void and combat the number of students falling through the cracks because of overworked school counselors.

The online academic platform aims to not only help students of color graduate from high school but continue their education at top universities. Resources include academic coaching & mentorship, personalized scholarship search, college essay support, transcript reviews, academic planning, ACT/SAT test prep, monthly webinars, and accountability meetings.

About ScholarPrep Nation

ScholarPrep Nation is a Village Method program designed to meet the unique cultural, emotional, and academic needs of young African Americans and those connected to this experience.

About the Village Method

The Village Method (TVM) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 grassroots organization, founded in 2014 by husband and wife team Mark and Mahea Gaskins. TVM is connecting African American youth and their families with local businesses, government, cultural institutions, and support services, so that they may achieve their full potential. TVM programs are created to reach the underserved Black youth and families of suburban South Alameda County, creating a holistic cycle where students progress to college, careers, and return to give back to their community. As the African proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child and a community to keep the parents sane.” TVM is working to create that village within the San Francisco Bay area.
